Every year around October there is much speculation about Nobel Prize winners, especially who the winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize will be.

The Norwegian Nobel Institute was set up in 1904 to aid the Nobel Committee to vet candidates. While the institute keeps nominees’ names secret for 50 years, the process of submitting candidates often leads to the disclosure of potential winners. Members of national assemblies and governments, international courts, university rectors, as well as active and former members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee are among those who can suggest nominees, and names of individuals and organizations who are nominated, usually leak out.

After 263 days for taking office, Mr. Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize. It is said that this prize “rewards him more for promise than achievement” and some people, such as Lech Walesa, Poland’s former president and a Nobel laureate, said it was too early to bestow the award on the 48-year-old US president.
Maybe this award could not be regarded as an honor for Mr. Obama but an honor for the whole States. As the first Black president, Mr. Obama is charming, partly for his attractive appearance and partly for his good silver tongue, and besides these, he is the proof of the American Dream. Mr. Obama had told us about his family, his father came from a small village of Kenya; he used to be the shepherd. And then with the scholarship, Mr. Obama’s father came to the States as an abroad student. Then he met his mate for the whole life---- Mr. Obama’s mother, a young lady from the small town, Kansas. Her father was the typical American citizen at his time; he worked for earning the living of his family and joined the army to fight again the Nazi during the Second World War. As Mr. Obama’s parents tied the knot, they moved to the west for running after their dreams, the fantastic American Dream. I could remember what the Godfather said, he believed that in this continent, his children or his grandchildren would one day catch the opportunity and may be one day one of them would be the president. When the young shepherd sat on the hill in Kenya, could he believe that one day, his black skin son would be the president of the country in another continent? Then America told the world, it could be possible.
The Nobel Peace Prize is issued to Mr. Obama, but in my opinion, it is issued to the fighters in American history for the freedom and for the rights of black people. From President Lincoln to Mr. Martin Luther King Jr., hundreds of thousands of people are fighting for the equality in this state. And now as Mr. Obama is the president, it could be a success for this fight. I know that one day that we do not need to have the rub ber wristbands which printed the “Freedom” or “Equality” to show our mercy to the black people in this country. And I think this is what the Nobel Peace Prize is issued to.

Greg Mortenson should've won. However, the prize being the political crock that it is, Obama shouldn't have been surprised to win.
